Logotheism.

From Sumerian proto-writing and heraldic emblems to modern brand icons: how logotypes became the purest expression of design. Yorgo Tloupas traces the long history of signs through a broad, accessible survey.

Editorial & Brand Design

Yorgo Tloupas is a french-greek designer living and working in Paris. His work spans visual identities, editorial design, ad campaigns, books, magazines, typefaces, packaging, signage and scenography, and digital experiences. With his studio, Yorgo&Co, he has worked on identities for Paris + Art Basel, Le Coq Sportif, blackcrows skis, Happy Socks, Martell, Picon and Ricard, among many others.

As a magazine creative director, Yorgo has led publications including Crash, Les Inrockuptibles, Libération, Vanity Fair France, GQ France, L’Équipe and Beaux Arts. He has conceived books, brand magazines and editorial platforms for Louis Vuitton, Audemars Piguet, Relais&Chateaux, Honda and Bucherer, while also creating ad campaigns for brands including Kenzo, Loro Piana and Omega.

In 2001, he launched Intersection Magazine in London, in partnership with the founders of Dazed&Confused and Another Magazine. The groundbreaking publication explored the links between vehicles and culture, interviewing innovators from Zaha Hadid to Karl Lagerfeld about their relationship with cars.

Deeply involved in action sports culture for decades, Yorgo has been the founding design director and a shareholder of blackcrows skis since the company's inception. Under his creative direction, the brand has become one of the world's leading independent ski companies, and its  2017–18 skis range entered the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

Yorgo teaches the history and design of logotypes at Penninghen, IFM, ECAL and Sciences Po Paris, and lectures internationally on branding and visual identity. His 2018 TEDxSciencesPo talk on (re)branding remains one of the few TEDx talks dedicated entirely to logo design.

The work of Yorgo and Yorgo&Co has received numerous international awards and has been featured in publications including The Financial Times, Wallpaper, Vogue, Apartamento, Eye, Creative Review, Grafik, Slanted, Brutus, Popeye, Die Zeit and Le Nouvel Observateur.
